Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

The Site does not require you to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect more information than is necessary to operate it. Depending on how you use the Site, we may collect the following categories of information:

• Usage and device data. Pages viewed, actions taken on a page, referring and exit pages, approximate location derived from IP address, browser type, device type, and operating system, collected automatically through analytics tools described in Section 2.
• Request and voting data. A randomly generated, non-identifying cookie or hashed IP address used to prevent duplicate votes on song requests, described further in Section 4.
• Information you provide voluntarily. An optional email address supplied with a free song request, or an email address supplied to Stripe when purchasing priority processing, described further in Sections 4 and 5.

We do not collect payment card information directly; that is collected by Stripe, as described in Section 5.

2. Cookies, Analytics, and Similar Technologies

We use PostHog and Google Tag Manager/Google Analytics ("Analytics Providers") to understand how visitors use the Site — which pages are read, how search is used, and where traffic originates. These tools operate through cookies and comparable browser storage and collect the usage and device data described in Section 1. This data is associated with a browser or device identifier, not with your name, unless you have separately provided that information to us.

Google Analytics data is processed under Google's own terms and policies. You may opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all sites that use it by installing theGoogle Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Data collected by PostHog is processed on our behalf and is not sold or disclosed except as necessary to provide the analytics service itself.

Most browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies through their settings. Doing so may limit certain features of the Site.

3. Advertising

The Site displays advertisements served through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve advertisements based on your prior visits to this Site and other websites, and to limit the number of times you are shown a given advertisement ("interest-based advertising"). SongFYI does not control, and is not responsible for, the data-collection practices of Google or its advertising partners; those practices are governed byGoogle's advertising and privacy policies.

You may opt out of interest-based advertising from Google atGoogle Ads Settings, and from other participating advertising companies ataboutads.info. Opting out limits the personalization of advertisements shown to you; it does not eliminate advertising on the Site.

4. Song Requests and Voting

To prevent a single visitor from casting repeated votes for the same song request, the Site sets a randomly generated, HttpOnly cookie that identifies your browser to our voting system. This cookie cannot be read by other websites and does not itself contain personal information. Where this cookie is unavailable, your IP address is used as a fallback identifier, but only after being irreversibly hashed (HMAC'd) with a private key held by us; we do not store, and cannot recover, your raw IP address from this value.

A free song request may optionally include an email address, which we retain solely so that an administrator reviewing the request queue can follow up if necessary. We do not send marketing or transactional email to free requesters.

5. Payment Processing

Requests for priority processing are completed through Stripe, Inc. ("Stripe"). Stripe collects and processes your payment card information directly; SongFYI does not receive, transmit, or store your card details. Stripe's collection and use of information is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy, and Stripe's checkout page may set its own cookies for fraud prevention purposes.

Stripe provides us with the email address associated with your checkout, which we retain only to send the two transactional emails a paid request may trigger: notice that the requested song has been published, and notice of a refund where applicable. This email address is accessible only to Site operators and is never displayed publicly.

6. How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

• Operate, maintain, and improve the Site and its content;
• Prevent abuse of the song-request and voting system;
• Process payments and fulfill priority requests;
• Send the limited transactional emails described in Sections 4 and 5; and
• Measure Site usage and advertising performance through the Analytics Providers described in Sections 2 and 3.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for any purpose beyond those listed above.

7. Third-Party Service Providers

We share information with the following service providers, each solely to the extent necessary to perform the function listed:

• Cloudflare — hosting, database infrastructure, and bot protection.
• PostHog — product analytics.
• Google — traffic and marketing analytics (Tag Manager/Analytics) and advertising (AdSense).
• Stripe — payment processing for priority requests.
• Resend — delivery of the transactional emails described in Section 5.

Each provider processes information under its own privacy policy and terms. We do not control, and are not responsible for, the independent practices of these providers.

8. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy — for example, request and payment records are retained for accounting and dispute-resolution purposes, and voting identifiers are retained for as long as the associated request remains open. Where you ask us to delete information under Section 9, we will do so except where retention is required by law or to resolve a dispute.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, or to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (SongFYI does not sell personal information). You may also withdraw any voluntarily provided email address by contacting us as described in Section 12. We will respond to verifiable requests in accordance with applicable law.

10. Children's Privacy

The Site is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us as described in Section 12 and we will take steps to delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The "Last updated" date below indicates when this Policy was last revised. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
