She tried to come “from a place of truth and authenticity” 1.

The first verse is about EJ, Nini’s fling at the point in the series when the song is performed 1. After Nini learned she got a theater role because of “this weird, fraudulent thing that he did” (he sabotaged another girl with a rotten egg), she was upset 1. Rodrigo explained the verse as Nini’s anger that EJ interfered in her career, and her insistence that “I didn’t need you to do this for me, I can be successful without your intervention” 1.
